Kel Tec 380 Serial Number Location

Aug 11, 2009  Thinking of buying a kel-tec but not sure what one I want the p3at or the pf-9? I want something for carry thats easier to pack in shorts and a tee than my sc. Im ok with.380 but I would prefer 9mm for protection.

Click to expand.I have no experience with the.380 BUT my PF9 has been a nightmare with FTEs and that has been the experience of many. It appears the latest versions are much more reliable but the older serial numbers have had numerous problems and running production changes are pretty significant. Learn what the latest serial numbers are and insist on a recent production model.

Mine is finally working well with an entirely new barrel that I bought from them of the latest manufacture. It still lacks some upgrades that aren't as important to me (metal mag release, improved trigger spring, etc.) I pocket carry for SD only and have tested it with three hundred rounds of mixed HP and range ammo and am satisfied it shoots. I will test a mag load or two every trip to the range but it will make you tired pretty fast compared to heavier guns with better balance and grips.

KT would probably have done the barrel free but eight weeks seemed to be the lead time so, I gave the barrel a chance otherwise it would have been traded off (I had reservations about sticking someone else with it). On the plus side, I bought the XDM as a result of getting a trade value on the KT, then buying it anyway and keeping the KT. Love the SA weapon! I have had a P3AT (.380), I currently have a P-11 (9mm), and have a close friend with a PF-9.

My impressions of each, -P3AT, packs a good size kick(can result in poor accuracy), grip extensions will help tremendously, works well as a pocket gun. Low capacity was always in the back of my mind, plus ammo availability issues. -P-11, personally carry it every day now, it is wider than the P3AT and the PF9 (seems to fit my hand better). Has a slide lock (prefer this), holds 10+1, sights are much better, much more accurate than either of the other 2.

(Best of the 3 IMO). -PF-9, I have shot this gun and it is difficult to control, lower capacity compared to the P11, but some like the grip better. The sights on this are better than the P3AT but not as good as the P-11 IMO. I personally prefer my P-11. I have not had any reliability issues out of my Kel-Tec firearms and will continue to be a loyal customer.

I have personally owned 2. One of my good friends has owned 2 as well, neither of us have had any problems. My wife and I both have P32's and I also have a PF9. I have had zero problems with any of them. My PF9 is my daily carry in the summer, and I also pocket carry the P32 on many occasions.

We went with the P32 since it has less recoil than the.380, and because it is 7+1 where the P3AT is 6+1. I understand there are other considerations and others would have chosen the.380, but this was my personal choice. Whatever you get, I would strongly recommend something other than the standard blued finish. Get it in hard chrome or parkerized. IMO it boils down to purpose. If you wanted a gun the is easy to hold than you would get a 1911.
