This piece receives probably too much credit for its importance in Western music. It's more than a little pretentious and takes itself too seriously.

It's largely commercial and sounds like not a few Hollywood film scores. That said, however, it is a piece that can captivate an audience. And help enlargen the sphere of influence of a choir-- many choirs have built faithful fan bases by performing this work.

As for the score, it is very clear and easy to read. Having each member of a choir purchase their own score of this style can promote unity and musical continuity, because many choirs that own Carmina Burana own parts specific to voice part. This comprehensive addition helps me, a musician, enormously. Enjoy the (even if somewhat exaggerated) emotional affect of this creative-yet-popular 20th century work. 52 of 124 people found this review helpful.
